Chris has represented numerous IT companies on both the buy-side and the sell-side in M&A transactions during his more than thirty years of experience as an investment banker, business attorney, General Counsel and IT executive. Previously, he was the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of both Computerland/Vanstar — a $2.7 Billion, 7,000 employee, NYSE seller of computer products and services — and Interland, Inc. — a NASDAQ company offering internet infrastructure services. At Computerland/Vanstar he was primarily responsible for an acquisition program which resulted in more than 25 acquisitions and an increase of $1 Billion in sales.
Before Computerland, Chris was a business law partner in a 40-attorney San Francisco Bay Area law firm; he has participated in more than 100 M&A transactions during his career. He has also structured, negotiated and documented strategic partnerships and alliances with key technology industry partners, including Microsoft, Computer Associates, IBM, HP, Compaq, Verisign, Verizon, WorldCom, Inacom, Merisel, and Micron. More recently he was the Senior Assistant General Counsel at Wal-Mart responsible for managing all legal services for its Global Procurement Division (28 offices worldwide, and $15+ Billion in procurement).
Chris Covington is a FINRA registered broker, has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and both a Juris Doctor and an LL.M. (Masters of Laws) from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Before law school he was a Captain in the U.S. Army.
