Marty has been involved in more than 115 IT M&A transactions during the last 15 years. In addition to his responsibilities as President of the firm, he actively manages transactions, and has been directly involved in the divestiture of six Fortune 500 divisions, and closed transactions in India, Canada, the UK, South Africa, France, as well as the US in the IT Services, BPO, Supply Chain, and Software segments. Marty also acts as counselor and trusted advisor to CEOs of select IT firms. He has advised on take-private strategies, spin-outs, international buyer market mapping, platform and add on acquisitions, as well as defended firms in hostile tender offers.
Marty founded the Datago distribution business of ComputerLand Corporation in 1991. The company had revenues of $287 million in the last quarter under his leadership before it was sold in 1994. Prior, he served as President of the Franchise and Distribution Division of ComputerLand Corporation, a $1-billion plus franchiser of computer resellers, and as Executive Vice President of Merisel, Inc., a $6-billion distributor.
Marty is a recognized influencer in the IT Solutions and IT enabled BPO sectors. He was the keynote speaker for HP American Partners Conference 2011 on the topic "A Wall Street View of The Channel & Channel Partners" in Las Vegas. Marty has been invited to be a keynote speaker at the China International Software and Information Service Forum & Entrepreneurs’ Summit 2012 on the topic “A Perspective on Global IT M&A for Chinese Companies” in China. He also spoke for the AmCham Shanghai IT Industry Committee in 2010 in Shanghai, China. Additionally, Marty has been a featured speaker and panelist at Brand Tech Forum, CRN Roundtable, Software Publishers Association, VARBusiness Roundtable, Information Technology Alliance, Sun Microsystems Partner conferences, the ASP Channel Conference, CA World, and the Service Industry Association.
For nearly three years, he wrote a biweekly column entitled "Eye on Investments" for CRN, a CMP Media publication. Today Marty is a regular contributor to Fast Company and GigaOm as an expert blogger, and is quoted in such publications as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Fortune, Politico, and the Business Insider.
Marty graduated from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan, and is a FINRA registered broker.
